Postponing necessary surgery is usually not warranted in patients with grade 1 or 2 hypertension, whereas in those with an SBP ≥ 180 mmHg and/or DBP ≥ 110 mmHg, deferring the intervention until BP is reduced or controlled is advisable, except for emergency situations1.
